President's Message

Greetings TRI-STATE Members!

BURRRR!!!! …. It’s getting cold out there! It’s that time of the year again in New England. The time of year where we hold dear memories and nostalgia associated with the cold and the holiday season approaching.

Thank you to all our Tristate members that attended the October Scientific meeting in West Hartford, CT. I received wonderful feedback regarding our speakers. For those who were unable to attend the topics were as follows: “Phlebotomist / Lab Accessioning” – Ivette Rivera (our very own Eastern District Councillor) discussed and reviewed phlebotomy procedures with an emphasis on the importance of patient quality. Speaker Robin Woodward discussed the “Relationship Between Adverse Childhood Experience and Addiction”. She talked about the high risk of substance use later in years and the importance of “practicing empathy” when working with individuals struggling with substance abuse. Her expertise on the topic was well received and we wanted to hear more!

Lastly, Speaker Judith Charlton identified key changes regarding “The Medical Assistant Then and Now”. She discussed key opportunities and future employment opportunities as well as the expanding scope of practice for medial assistants. Thank you all for your expertise and sharing it with our members!

We were able to award 3 continuing education units for those that attended. We will continue to offer CEU’s without cost to you. Remember to Comply with the Certification Continuation Program (CCP) every three years. CCP requires AMT certified members to document activities supporting continuation of AMT certification every three years.

I also want to thank two of our members that participated as Delegates at the 2019 Annual Meeting in July; Sota Phongsavanh, RMA (MA) and Jazmin Ayala, RMA (CT). Thank you again and take a minute to read their experience and what they learned in the newsletter.

Reminder- Tristate has a new email trissamt@gmail.com – Connect with me if you have ideas for future topics to present or your interest in serving on our team. It is important to stay certified, be sure you update your profile with AMT and pay your dues, so you are sure to receive all the benefits membership provides as well as receiving emails with updated information. I would like to welcome all our new members to our state society and look forward to you participating in our state activities going forward.

Wishing you all health, comfort, and prosperity this holiday and the winter season.

All my best,
Phyllis Nordby
