Stay Certified

Congratulations! You've achieved something that relatively few have accomplished... you've become certified! You are now an "active certified member", which means you are both certified AND actively participating in the professional activities of your organization. To maintain your "active certified member" status simply:
  • Pay annual fee
  • Comply with the Certification Continuation Program (CCP) every three years
  • Abide by the AMT Standards of Practice.
All AMT certified members are required to pay an annual fee in order to keep their status active. This fee also helps to defray the costs of other professional benefits that members enjoy throughout the year. (Member Benefits)

When you receive your annual notification, pay for your invoice one of several ways:

Pay Renewal Fee
  • Login to your secure section of the AMT website, and from your member’s homepage pay your invoice directly online.
  • Pay by Mail: Pay by check, money order or your credit card and mail it directly to AMT.
Note: Failing to pay your annual fee will result in a loss of your member benefits and could result in a loss of your certification.
Note: Member benefits are immediately available, and therefore the annual fee and the fee to mail a card are not refundable.

Once your annual payment is processed, you can access your digital card via "My Homepage". Member benefits are immediately available, and therefore the annual fee is not refundable.

As a certification agency, it is our responsibility to solicit and obtain from our certificants valid documentation that demonstrates that you continue to maintain current competency for as long as you are working in your professional field.

AMT achieves this goal through the Certification Continuation Program (CCP). CCP requires AMT certified members to document activities supporting continuation of AMT certification every three years. Review the CCP Guidance Document

Who is Required to Comply with CCP?
  1. Individuals initially certified on or after January 1, 2006 are required to comply with CCP every three years.
  2. Individuals certified prior to January 1, 2006 (excluding individuals listed above) are NOT required to participate as credentials were initially issued without a specified time limitation. However, AMT strongly encourages all members to keep abreast in their field through continuing education and other professional activities. Individuals who remain active members retain the terms in force at the time of certification. Note: Individuals originally certified prior to Jan 1, 2006, who have let their active membership lapse longer than three years, will have to reactivate and will then be subject to the three year CCP cycle.
What Are the Point Requirements?
Depending on the certification, a member will be required to obtain a certain number of points over a three-year period:

Who must recertify?
  • Individuals originally certified after January 1, 2006, who past the end of their three-year Certification Continuation Program (CCP) cycle, and
    • have failed to pay an annual fee for one or more years AND/OR
    • have failed to comply with AMT's Certification Continuation Program (CCP)
  • Individuals who are audited for compliance with CCP and do not provide supporting documentation
  • Individuals originally certified prior to January, 2006 who have failed to pay an annual fee for three or more years must reactivate their certification by completing the process to recertify

How do I recertify?
Individuals must demonstrate EITHER compliance with CCP OR retake/pass the AMT exam in order to be recertified or reactivated.  Complete and submit the appropriate forms and applicable fee:

  • The Recertification by CCP Application (Download): This checklist and application must be submitted with supporting documentation that verifies participation in all stated activities totaling the required number of points. The activities must have been attained during the past 3 years. This application is valid for 90 days. For a list of acceptable documentation (Click Here). You may also review the CCP Guidance Document
    OR
  • The Application for Recertification by Exam (Download): Once an application is processed, you will then follow steps identical to the ones followed at original examination time. This application is valid for one year. Candidates are allowed to retake the examination up to three additional times after paying a Retest Fee. The applicant may not be considered for recertification if he/she fails the examination the fourth time.

    Special Notes for Recertification:

You must meet current eligibility requirements. For MTs, that now includes a baccalaureate degree.

If your certification has lapsed longer than 10 years, you may ONLY recertify via examination.
