District Councillor Message

Greetings to the Southern District AMT Membership!

As I am writing this message to you, COVID is causing much sickness in our communities. Everyone stay well and safe!!

Returning to the Board is Harry Narine, MT of Sangre Grande, Trinidad and Tobago, Marty Hinkel, MT of Wyoming and Fran Oran, RMA of Nebraska. Congratulations!! The AMT Board of Directors officers are President- Chris Seay of Tennessee, Vice-President-Ken Hawker, Secretary-Fran Oran, and Treasurer-Deb Westervelt. Congratulations to all!! Way-to-go Chris Seay & Harry Narine!

With our strong Board and Executive Councillor leadership and the AMT home office support staff, I am confident that AMT will continue to move forward in the laboratory industry. Now how do we the membership help AMT move forward? Starting at the state level, do you have an interest in serving on the state board? Do you want to attend the next national meeting as a delegate? How do you get involved and what are the requirements? These questions can be answered by each State President or the Southern District Councillor. I would encourage each state board to host a “Meet and Greet” for the membership to meet the Board and Officers and ask questions about getting involved on the state level.

Please let me know when you set the date for your fall meetings. I would like to attend your meetings whenever possible. Remember, states must have a minimum of one scientific meeting with 2 hours of continuing education per year, two board meetings and one business meeting are also required each year. This fall all states must hold a business meeting for elections and audit. An eblast must be sent out to the membership 30 days prior to the business meeting. If you are interested, please let the President know and they will direct you through the qualification process.

The 2021 AMT Annual Meeting was quite the success with more than 5000 people registered! The 10 free CEs offered was a big boost for those individuals needing them to meet their CCP requirement. Don’t forget to claim your credits. You have until 11:59 pm, August 21, 2021.

If you have questions, try utilizing the website for information. There is an abundance of help located there about your state. Information usually includes upcoming events for your state, President and Councillor’s messages and State SOPs.

Save the date: The next AMT Annual Meeting will be held in Scottsdale, AZ, July 18-22, 2022. This will be an exciting time as I am looking forward to seeing all the members come together for the activities. Also in 2022, the Magnolia Southern District Meeting will be held in Louisville, KY, September 30- October 1, 2022. Watch for more information in the Pulse Magazine or on the website.

If you have questions, contact the AMT home office at 847-823-5169 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. CST. You can also reach AMT by email at mail@americanmedtech.org. They are happy to help you with any issue.

I look forward to meeting you at your next state meeting. In the meantime, enjoy your summer, only about 4 weeks left! See you in the fall ya’ll!!

Warm regards,
Anna Catron MT(AMT)
