Welcome to the New Mexico State Society website. It has been a rough year for most of us with a lot of uncertainty in the world now. I would like a extend a hearty thanks to all the essential workers who have placed their life on hold to make sure the rest of us stay healthy. Remember, the best prevention against COVID-19 is to stay home, limit your movement, wear a mask, and be consistent with proper hand hygiene. Hope you are staying healthy and following recommended guidelines, thus making our essential workers’ jobs less stressful.
State societies have curtailed their activities for most of the year, and the future for the rest of the year is uncertain. Please check the website for future activities. We will update the site and notify members of changes to future events.
Although we had no Annual Meeting this year awards were announced. Our own Jo Jo Naval was awarded both the Editor of the Year and first place for our journal. The Board would like to thank all members involved for their assistance in running the state society. It is with your help that we were awarded “Honor Roll” status for last year. During the past month, the AMT online delegate community had virtual interviews of the individuals who were running for the Board of Directors and elections were held virtually. Members elected to the national Board of Directors included: Ken Hawker and Cherry-Ann De Costa Carter for the MT/MLT positions and Jill Carlson and Deborah Westervelt for the RMA/RPT positions. We are proud to announce that President for next year will be Jeanette Hobson; Vice-President will be Ken Hawker; Secretary will be Marty Hinkel and Treasurer will be Deborah Westervelt. Congratulations to our new officers and a special thanks to our members who were in the running.
Please mark your calendar for next year’s Annual Meeting in Norfolk, Virginia, July 19 - 23. As it stands now and unless the situation changes this year, we plan on having a New Mexico State Society meeting October 17, 2020 tentatively scheduled at Pima Medical Institute-West. We plan on having continuing education sessions for credit. Lunch will be provided and we will discuss the business of our state society. As a member of our state society you have an equal voice in the running of our state. Please plan on attending and adding your voice.
I would like to thank Pima Medical Institute and their instructors Lisa Gabaldon and Florentino Castillo for assisting in putting our meetings together. It is with their help that we are able to obtain a location to hold our meetings.
I look forward to hearing from our members and if you have any suggestions on improving our website, please let me know. Hope to see you at our upcoming meeting.
Virgil E. Marchand, RMA (AMT)
