AMT Response to the COVID-19 Crisis

AMT is committed to working with you, our members and our customers, to adapt as conditions unfold. To help, AMT has devised some solutions that are available now.

Please check this page regularly for updates as circumstances change.

Communicating directly with AMT staff
While the AMT national office is closed temporarily, staff are working remotely. We are NOT able to take phone calls during this time. The best way to reach us is via the direct contact avenues listed at the bottom of this page.

Due to our limited ability to receive and process USPS mail and checks, please use electronic means to send documents or make online payments. If you are currently in your CCP cycle and have paid your annual renewal fee, you can simply log in to your personal homepage to download and print your card for free.

Annual Meeting
Annual Meeting 2020 has been canceled. Please click here for more information and details.

Discounts/Promotions for Healthcare Workers
Many corporations and businesses are providing a variety of discounts to essential healthcare workers from a lower price at the gas pump to a free cup of coffee. Please click here for a list and more details. Thank you for all you do!

Testing/rescheduling
Our testing partner, Pearson VUE, had temporarily closed most testing centers but is reopening them for testing for essential workers like AMT applicants. If you are scheduled for an exam and have not received notification from Pearson VUE on whether a site closure has affected your ability to test, you MUST contact Pearson VUE for detailed information about timing and whether your specific site is impacted.

To schedule or reschedule your exam, please visit the Pearson Vue Coronavirus Update Page and check out the FAQ. The quickest way to reach customer service for Pearson VUE is through the chat feature on their page.

Before going to your test appointment be sure to check with your local health protection agency to determine if it is encouraged or required to wear a face mask. In locations where a face mask is required, candidates may be denied testing if unable to present a face mask during the check-in process. Face masks are allowed during testing, but candidates must briefly remove them to take the required candidate photo at check-in.

Extending the deadline for an application or certification
In response to the COVID-19 emergency, AMT will honor extension requests from individuals whose current application or certification is set to expire on any date between June 1 and August 1, 2020 by extending the end date to September 1, 2020. (Note: Extensions granted by request only. Some limits may apply.) Here are the steps required:

  • Applicants – Before AMT can extend your application, you first will need to contact Pearson VUE to verify and/or cancel your scheduled exam. After completing this step, please contact the Certification Department to request an extension for your application. AMT is working closely with Pearson VUE to coordinate examination extension updates. Please continue to check the AMT and Pearson VUE websites as well as your email for additional updates. We also recommend monitoring your status on your AMT Homepage.

  • Members – Please contact the CCP Department to request an extension for your certification. Please be aware that by extending your certification now, September 1st will signify the date that your annual renewal fees and CCP points will be due going forward.

  • We recommend that you continue checking your email for updates and monitoring your status on your AMT Homepage.

Adapting externship rules
With the closures of some facilities in response to concerns surrounding COVID-19, AMT is allowing relevant employment hours or volunteer hours in the field to qualify as externship hours. Applicants who have already tested and passed an AMT exam and who have met all other eligibility requirements for the credential, except for the completion of a professional externship of 160 hours, may request from AMT a custom letter to provide to their potential or current employer. The letter includes a form that the employer will submit to AMT testifying to the number of hours that the applicant completed for the requirement. Contact the Certification Department for your letter. If the accreditor of your school or program accepts simulation in lieu of externship, AMT will accept that as well.
