2016 Fall/Winter President's Message
Greetings to everyone,
I am so excited to be able to congratulate all our new members to the ALSSAMT family!
We have had a good year thus far. Celebrating Dental Assistant’s Recognition Week (DARW) as well as Medical Laboratory Professional’s Week (MLPW) was a huge success! We reached out to so many schools, dental offices and medical clinics in the state of Alabama by recognizing their importance to the medical and dental professions and helping them understand who American Medical Technologists (AMT) are and what we are all about. We also had two board members attend this year’s Carolina Clinical Connection in beautiful Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I would also like to congratulate our editor Nettie Norphleet for raising the bar once again this year earning the ALATECH winner of second place in the journal category. We are so proud of her hard work and dedication.
Our Spring Board of Directors meeting held at the infamous Uncle Mick’s in beautiful downtown Prattville, Alabama, April 22, 2017 was very prosperous. We gained much insight from the information shared by our District Councillor Kaye Tschop. It was time to reevaluate by-laws, reiterate the do’s and don’ts of state organizing and have a delicious meal with colleagues and friends. We closed our meeting with a well deserved presentation of the “soon to be famous” Past State President’s Pin to our mentor and all around great guy, Dr. Paul C. Brown Sr., MT (AMT), CLT (HHS). And let us not forget congratulations are also in order for Dr. Brown’s receiving the coveted Silver Service Award. We are equally happy and thrilled to be able to see him accept this award when we arrive in Kansas City.
Also keep in mind that our 2017 ALSSAMT Fall Educational Forum, held in what is known a “The Port City,” as well as the “birthplace of the Mardi Gras,” the beautiful and historic city of Mobile, Alabama, Saturday, October 28, 2017. We have been lucky to schedule 6 remarkable speakers who will be focusing on medical laboratory issues such as the pathogenesis of gout and medical assistants’ ethical concerns and the proper techniques assisting with breast cancer patients. All attendees will be able to earn 6 continuing education units. Visit the Alabama State Society’s link on the AMT’s website for more information. You may download registration, meeting and hotel information for this event. We encourage and appreciate your preregistration and as is our normal we will be serving a delicious, hot, catered lunch from one of Mobile’s premier caterers, Namen’s Catering and Restaurant.
I would especially like you to remember AMT’s 79th Educational Program and National Meeting coming up July 9-13, 2017 in Kansas City, Missouri at the Intercontinental Hotel. There's still time to register for this convention and book your room. Come join us for what will surely be a worthwhile learning experience and all around good time!
