President's Message

Hello Members and Students,

I am so thankful for our Vice-President Dr. Henry Oh, MT (AMT) for all the help with the Spring Seminar. I would also like to thank our board members for getting the Spring Seminar done. We were so lucky to have our District Councilor Sheryl Rounsivill, AHI, CMAS, RMA, RPT (AMT), who came all the way from California to attend our Spring Seminar.

Our Spring Seminar Speakers were:
  • Dr. Henry Oh, MT (AMT) AHI, FACSc “A Case Study of a Patient with ST Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction.”
  • Patricia Otiede, MBA/HCA “Professionalism and Ethics in Health Care.”
  • Dr. Salesi Havili “Diagnosis and Management of Infectious Diseases.”
  • Eugene Demekhin, ASRT, RCP “A Review of Lung Physiology.”
They were great speakers and it seems everyone enjoyed listening and learning from them. This year the National 80th Educational Program and Convention will be held at the Hyatt Regency hotel on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. on July 1-5, 2018.

If anyone is interested in representing the Utah State Society and meet the criteria as a delegate, please contact me by email; micegobert@hotmail.com or via telephone at 801-390-6346. Medical Assistants Recognition week is October 15- 19, 2018.

Message from the Editor

First of all, I’d like to thank Ken Hawker, MT(AMT) and Deborah Adelsgruber, CMAS (AMT) for welcoming me and offering me the great opportunity to be a part of the Utah team. My sincerest appreciation also goes to LaVita Jones, RMA (AMT) and Christina Mahon, RMA (AMT) for supporting me to become the state society vice president during our conference call/meeting in early March.

I am also thrilled to become the editor of this newsletter as recommended by Ken Hawker. On behalf of the Utah AMT State Society, I’d like to thank Ken for serving as the interim editor of this newsletter while the state society was in transition. Since this would be the first issue of the newsletter that I’m editing, I hope that this will serve best the members of the Utah AMT State Society.

We had our Spring Meeting on March 17, 2018 at the LDS Business College. I had the opportunity to meet Sheryl Rounsivill, AHI, RMA, CMAS, RPT, who is our Western District Councilor. During the meeting we presented Sheryl with a Certificate of Appreciate for her continued support and contributions not only to our state society, but also the other state societies within the Western Region. I’d like to thank our three (3) great speakers who volunteered their time and expertise by presenting their respective topics during the meeting. There was active participation from the attendees during the presentations. One of the highlights was the “hands-on” participation where the attendees took turns in ventilating a real pig lung using a resuscitator bag. Inflating the pig lung demonstrated a part of lung physiology, as presented by Eugene Demekhin, ASRT, RCP.

I look forward to meeting the other members of the state society in future meetings. Thank you.

Warmest regards,
Henry Oh, PhD, MT (AMT) AHI, FACSc
Vice President and Editor
