President's Message

It is that time a year when the leaves change color, the weather turns colder, and we prepare for the holiday season.

The Ohio State Society has had a productive year.  In the spring we elected delegates to represent our state at the 80th National Convention in Washington D.C. from July 1-5, 2018.  During the convention, I was proud to represent our Ohio members at the “Resolutions and Meet the Candidates Meeting”.  The OHSSAMT board drafted two resolutions to present to the other state delegates and the national board.  The resolutions concerned AHIs in AMT.  The first resolution was to ask the national board to create a national AHI of the Year Award.  The second resolution was to ask the national board to allow AHIs to have the privilege of serving as state delegates and voting at the Annual Business meetings.  AHIs do not take a certification test with AMT, so they are not afforded the privilege to serve as president or vice present at the state or national nor are they allowed to serve as delegates to the national convention.  They do pay dues and have to maintain CEs.  I am happy to report that the other states voted to approve the resolutions be carried on to the national board for further consideration.
The 81st National Convention will be held in Chicago from July 1-5, 2018.

If you haven’t noticed, our state initials have changed from OSSAMT to OHSSAMT to avoid confusion with Oklahoma and Oregon state societies.

We have a new state email.  It is OHSSAMT@gmail.com.  This change was made to help avoid identity theft.  To contact one of the board members, just use the email address listed above and within the subject line simply list what your question is and who you would like to contact.

Our editor would like to let our members know that we would like to send out our journals by electronic mail.  We would like members to let him know how they would like to receive their journals.

I would like to encourage all our members to use AMT after their discipline.  It shows AMT pride and lets employers know what organization you belong to.

Our 2019 spring educational seminar will be held at the Zane Trace High School in Chillicothe, Ohio on April 13, 2018.  There will be a pre-registration form in the fall journal.  Watch for further details as we get closer to the date.

On October 5-6, 2018 OHSSAMT hosted the Great Lakes District Conference/OHSSAMT fall educational seminar.  It was held in West Chester, Ohio.  What a success it was!  We had approximately 172 in attendance.  We had 45 first time attendees.  The hotel was accommodating, the food was great, and the educational program was phenomenal.

We were honored to have our current AMT national president, Jeannie Hobson, in attendance.  Also, we had our past AMT president, the AMT Judiciary Councillor, the AMT Legal Counsel, one of our AMT board members, and 3 AMT District Councillors in attendance.

OHSSAMT held its general business meeting on October 6th.  During the meeting we gave out our state awards and held our elections to the board.  Alanna Dargartz RMA, John Gartin RMA, and I ran for reelection.  We all were reelected by acclamation.  We will continue to work hard for you in the coming year.
