Editor's message

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It is indeed a pleasure to send you greetings as your new editor. Many thanks to Nettie L. Norphleet for the exceptional work she did as our previous editor. She raised the bar and kept the Alatech in the fore front. Thanks Nettie for your commitment to excellence. I look very much forward to keep current information before you and invite your contacting me should you have any inquiries about our state society journal. Should any of you desire to submit an article for our state journal do not hesitate to contact me.

Let me take this opportunity to congratulate our award winners. Daniel Benson received the Honor Roll certificate; recognizing that as President of our state society he fulfilled all requirements. Nettie L. Norphleet received the Exceptional Merit Award and Second Place Journal Award. I was privileged to receive the GEM Award. During the business meeting the Oklahoma State Society conferred on me the Chris Christian Leadership Award. That was a total surprise. Yet, I felt honored to receive this award in memory of a former pillar of AMT.

It gives me great pleasure to welcome all new recent certified members to our state society. You indeed are welcome to participate in the state society’s activities. Our state society hosts an annual educational forum where you may obtain much needed continuing education credits. We hold these meetings at various locations around the state of Alabama. We are considering mid or north Alabama for the 2019 spring scientific and business meetings. The ALSSAMT participates in the Magnolia Educational Treasures (MET) Conference that is held every two years. This year’s MET is scheduled for October 19-20, 2018 at the Holiday Inn Airport, Gulfport, MS. Presently there have been over 115 registrants for this meeting entitled: “Finding Treasures in the Gulf.” MET has provided some very exciting and memorable conferences since 1997.

The next professional week to be observed is Medical Assistants Recognition Week, MARW. The theme for this year is “Medical Assistants At The Heart of Healthcare..” I invite you to take a moment to inform the public what Medical Assistants do. We look forward to celebrating with our colleagues the week of October 15-19-2018.

AMT’s 81st Educational Program and National Meeting will be held July 1-5, 2019 in Chicago, IL at the Chicago Hilton. I have had the privilege to have attended national conferences since 1989. Each one has given me such wonderful memories; afforded me opportunities to serve our organization and its members; and meet colleagues from around the world. It has been and continues to be an awesome time of learning and establishing new friendships. I encourage to plan to attend next year’s meeting in the windy city. I look forward to hearing from many of you.

Dr. Paul C. Brown, Sr., MT (AMT)
