Stay Certified

Congratulations!  You've achieved something that relatively few have accomplished... you've become certified!  You are now an “active certified member”, which means you are both certified AND actively participating in the professional activities of your organization. To maintain your "active certified member" status simply:
  • Pay annual fee
  • Comply with the Certification Continuation Program (CCP) every three years
  • Abide by the AMT Standards of Practice
All AMT certified members are required to pay an annual fee in order to keep their status active. This fee also helps to defray the costs of other professional benefits that members enjoy throughout the year. (Member Benefits)

When you recieve your annual notification, pay for your invoice one of several ways:

  • Pay Dues Login to your secure section of the AMT website, and from your member’s homepage pay your invoice directly online.
  • Pay by Mail: Pay by check, money order or your credit card and mail it directly to AMT.
Note: Failing to pay your annual fee will result in a loss of your member benefits and could result in a loss of your certification.

Once AMT receives and processes your payment, you will receive your card and annual sticker in the mail.

As a certification agency, it is our responsibility to solicit and obtain from our certificants valid documentation that demonstrates that you continue to maintain current competency for as long as you are working in your professional field.

AMT achieves this goal through the Certification Continuation Program (CCP). CCP requires AMT certified members to document activities supporting continuation of AMT certification every three years.

Who is Required to Comply with CCP?
  1. Individuals initially certified on or after January 1, 2006 are required to comply with CCP every three years.
  2. Individuals certified prior to January 1, 2006 (excluding individuals listed above) are NOT required to participate; however, AMT strongly encourages all members to keep abreast in their field through continuing education and other professional activities

    Note:
Individuals originally certified prior to Jan 1, 2006, who have let their active membership lapse longer than three years, will have to recertify and will then be subject to the three year CCP cycle.

What Are the Point Requirements?
Depending on the certification, a member will be required to obtain a certain number of points over a three-year period:

How Are Points Recorded?
Certification represents a declaration of your professional competence.

Note: If you have failed to pay an annual fee for less than three years, you do NOT have to recertify, but you must pay past due and current annual fees and be in compliance with CCP requirements to regain active certified member status.

Who must recertify?
Recertification applies to individuals:

  • Originally certified prior to January 1, 2006 AND who have failed to pay an annual fee for three or more years
  • Originally certified after January 1, 2006,  and who at the end of their three year Certification Continuation Program (CCP) cycle, have failed to pay an annual fee for one or more years AND/OR have failed to comply with AMT’s Certification Continuation Program (CCP).
  • Who are audited for compliance with CCP and do not provide supporting documentation

How do I recertify?
Individuals must demonstrate EITHER compliance with CCP OR retake/pass the AMT exam in order to be recertified.  Complete and submit the appropriate forms and applicable fee:

  • The Recertification by CCP Form (Download): This form must be submitted with full documentation that verifies participation in the stated activities. The activities should have been attained during the past 3 years. For a list of acceptable documentation (Click Here).
  • OR
  • The Application for Recertification by Exam (Download): Once an application is processed, you will then follow steps identical to the ones followed at original examination time.

Once you have met all the requirements for recertification, you will receive a new certificate and the current year card and seal to place on your certificate. A new expiration date will be assigned. To maintain your certification, you will have to pay an annual fee and every three years demonstrate compliance with the Certification Continuation Program (CCP).

Special Notes:

To recertify you must meet current eligibility requirements.

If your certification has lapsed longer than 10 years, you may ONLY recertify via examination.

If your certification has lapsed longer than 5 years, but less than 10, you will follow the same requirements listed above AND will ensure that your documented CE activities INCLUDE at least one of the following:

  • Attendance at a review course  related to your specific certification of greater than 4 hours taken at a local college or at a state meeting
  • Attendance at 5-8 hours of additional CE activity other than STEP articles. For Example:
  • attendance at  seminars like Bloodborne Pathogens, HIPAA review, CPR
  • seminar from a medical diagnostic company on a disease or particular test
  • attendance at a state/regional/national meeting with educational presentations
