At the South Central High School prom in Coldwater, KS, one of the more unusual photos was a shot of three students in full prom dress holding phlebotomy tubes aloft with properly gloved hands. Hailey Moore; Tyra Snyder and Addison Moore all seniors, recently completed a phlebotomy training course at the Comanche County Hospital.

These girls loved the program so much that they wanted to take a picture at their senior prom with some pretty great props!” says Jennifer Godfrey, MHCL, MT(AMT), AHI(AMT), the instructor for the Comanche County Hospital Phlebotomy program, which is affiliated with American Medical Technologists (AMT).

Hailey, Tyra and Addison have completed the program and are preparing to take the AMT Registered Phlebotomy Technician (RPT) certification exam.

The students participated in the program outside of their regular school day. They went to the hospital every Friday of their senior year and fulfilled 120 educational and clinical hours, including completing a textbook, workbook and exam review book; plus 50 unaided venipunctures and 10 capillary sticks.

Once they pass the exam, they will enjoy full AMT member benefits of the AMT professional association and able to grow their skills through on-going requirements for maintain certification.

“I could not be prouder of these three students” says Jennifer All three plan to attend college and gain degrees in the medical field.
